Opportunities for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who wish to work in rural and remote areas of Australia.

As quoted:

TWO OUT OF every five doctors working in rural or remote Australian communities are international medical graduates. While they obviously play a critical role in delivering rural medical health services, many will find the process of gaining registration very daunting.

As part of our commitment to building a quality workforce, the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) has continued to expand its activities over the past 12 months to include assessment of IMGs. The college’s IMG policy framework is aligned with the Council of Australian Governments directive to implement nationally consistent assessment of IMGs.

ACRRM currently focuses on three assessment pathways: completing the standard or competent authority pathways leads an IMG to general registration; the specialist pathway results in registration within the relevant specialty.

In October 2009 the Australian Medical Council accredited the college to assess IMG practitioners under the specialist pathway. The college’s specialist pathway has now launched.
